Position Summary

This position will inspect facilities for water metering and cross connections control requirements and will be required to assist with the administration and promotion of the cross-connection control program. This position reports to the Coordinator, Cross Connection & Metering.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Inspect existing facilities to ensure compliance with water metering and cross connection control requirements.
  • Conduct presentations and outreach to educate various groups on the Cross Connection Control Program.
  • Test and repair City-owned backflow prevention assemblies.
  • Perform plumbing tasks that support City water and sewer operations.
  • Train and assist water metering personnel in plumbing techniques and cross connection control requirements.
  • Investigate and resolve water pressure issues and other customer concerns.
  • Maintain computerized records and assist with the administration of the Cross Connection Control Program.
  • Supervise staff as required.
  • Follow all Occupational Health and Safety regulations and City policies to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Key Qualifications

  • Typically, the knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position are obtained through the completion of grade twelve (12) or equivalent, a Journeyman Certificate in the plumbing trade, and Cross Connection Control Specialist Certificate.
  • Two (2) years of journeyman experience in the plumbing trade in the building construction, maintenance and backflow prevention areas.
  • Knowledge of the City’s water distribution system.
  • Familiarity with the Canadian Plumbing Code, National Building Code, CSA Specifications, and City of Regina Bylaws.
  • Understanding of occupational hazards and safety regulations, including confined space and trenching requirements.
  • Ability to diagnose, locate, and repair plumbing system malfunctions.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills, with the ability to conduct presentations.
  • Proficiency in interpreting drawings, specifications, and schematics.
  • Strong record-keeping and supervisory abilities.

Working/Other Conditions

  • The demonstrated ability to provide strong communication and public relation skills in the delivery of the features and values of the Cross Connection Control Program in an enthusiastic and professional manner.
  • Must possess a valid Saskatchewan driver's license, have available a vehicle for work usage (a travel allowance is provided), and a first aid certificate.
