Position Summary

This position is responsible for performing a variety of routine preventive maintenance duties and minor repairs to vehicles and equipment. This position reports to the Trades Coordinator.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

 

  • Assists the Journeyperson in routine preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment including turf Maintenance equipment, heavy truck and/or heavy equipment and agricultural/industrial equipment.
  • Picks up and delivers various parts and vehicles; performs an assortment of cleaning and tidying duties; provides assistance to mechanics, battery boosting; maintains garage area, sweeps and washes floors and ensures areas clear of oil and debris; maintains and cleans shop tools.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment, such as lubrication, minor repairs, inspection and reporting.
  • Maintain repair records both manually and in a computer work order system.
  • Follow all rules and regulations as set out in the Provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act and the City of Regina Occupational Health and Safety Manual.
  • Performs related work as required.

Key Qualifications

 

  • Typically the knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position are obtained through a minimum one (1) to two (2) years experience performing equipment maintenance, servicing or minor mechanical repairs. Technical courses or training in a mechanical repair field or approved trade standing as an apprentice in the mechanical repair trade would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of automotive, heavy trucks, industrial and construction equipment.
  • Knowledge of fuel, air brakes, electrical, hydraulic, lubricating, cooling, transmission and differential systems.
  • Knowledge in the use and care of garage equipment and basic tools of the trade.
  • Ability to plan and organize work, along with communicating effectively in oral and written form.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, team members, co-workers, suppliers and the general public.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team exercising sound judgement and decision making.
  • Able to perform work of a physical nature in all types of weather conditions.

Working/Other Conditions

 

  • Must possess a valid Class 5 driver's license.
  • A valid Class 3 License with an “A” Endorsement will be considered an asset. Or will be eligible to obtain within 90 days.
  • Must obtain and be able to obtain the necessary permits and certifications to operate equipment as required.
  • Must be able and willing to perform work of a physical nature in field environments and inclement conditions.
  • Must have or be able to obtain certification in Fall Protection, Confined Space, Workplace Hazardous
  • Materials Information System (WHMIS), First-aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Overhead Crane and other training certifications.
  • Must be physically fit to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. Including prolonged standing and the ability to lift up to 70lbs/32kg.
  • May be required to work shift and/or irregular hours.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain certification as a Forklift Operator.
  • The employee will be required to work both inside and outside year-round.

  • Proof of education is required.
  • Additional assessments may be conducted to evaluate competencies, skills, and knowledge.
