Position Summary
This position oversees the crew in the repair and construction of manholes and storm drains as well as being the premier participant in the process. This position reports to a Crew Lead.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Operate equipment and monitor all other activity and staff associated with the repair and construction of manholes and catch basins.
- Responsible for the servicing, set-up modifications, and clean-up of equipment such as compressors, front-end loaders, skid steers, trucks and boom hoists.
- Assess the grade sheet designs, ensure the locations of underground utilities, and assess environmental conditions during the construction process.
- Schedule and co-ordinate the crew, in conjunction with the Crew Lead.
- Identify problems with existing grade levels, structural deficiencies, and compaction process and recommend corrective measures.
- Provide training, guidance, and direction to employees.
- Initiate continuous improvement in operations.
- Promote, enforce, and follow regulations and policies related to Occupational Health & Safety.
- Promote and enforce regulations and policies related to labour relations (e.g. performance management).
- Maintain strong partnerships with internal and external customers and suppliers.
- Perform physically demanding work.
- Perform related work as required.
Key Qualifications
- Grade twelve (12) or GED.
- The knowledge, abilities and skills are typically obtained through a minimum of two (2) years experience in relevant sewer & drainage infrastructure or a related industry.
- Level 2 Wastewater Collection Operator Certification, as identified under the Saskatchewan Water and Wastewater Works Operator Certification Standards.
- Ability to follow verbal or written instructions of a technical nature and analyse construction plans and blueprints.
- Ability to carry out servicing and maintenance on assigned equipment.
- Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
- Ability to train operators and crew in the operation, servicing, maintenance and care of equipment and activities associated with concrete reconstruction and all related job duties.
- Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the general public.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations as necessitated by work assignments.
- Ability to operate assigned equipment with skill and efficiency with due regard to safety measures which must be observed to protect both the public and fellow employees.
- Ability to follow all safety regulations as set out in the section of department to which assigned.
- Ability to record and report orally and in written form on daily activities.
- Knowledge of safety procedures to adhere to in performing the work.
- Knowledge of the City of Regina temporary traffic control manual.
Working/Other Conditions
- Must possess a valid driver's license, First Aid Certificate, Confined Space Entry certificate, and be trained in the operation of equipment such as mobile cranes in the area utilized in the area of responsibility.
- Must be able and willing to perform work of a physical nature in field environments and inclement conditions.
- Must be willing to be on call, perform overtime, and work shift and/or irregular hours.
- Must be comfortable working in environments where sewage is present.
- Must respond to call outs and emergencies as required.
