Position Summary
The City of Regina is recruiting to add a dynamic, experienced, and passionate Senior Engineer to the team in the Traffic Engineering Branch. Work involves the application of skilled engineering knowledge to a variety of difficult traffic engineering problems. This position will champion and lead the advancement of the City's Vision Zero vision and goals. As a Senior Engineer you will be required to work with a team of engineering professionals, while providing appropriate supervision and mentoring as needed. You will be responsible for managing various traffic engineering projects, programs, and expenditures. Additionally, your responsibilities may include conducting all types of traffic engineering studies, temporary traffic control design and management, traffic safety studies, creating policies and design standards, bylaw management, and managing the design, construction, operation, and contractual requirements of various traffic system projects, including traffic signals, communications systems, traffic signs, and pavement markings. You will be responsible for representing the organization and engaging with both internal and external stakeholders. A thorough knowledge of transportation engineering standards, guidance, best practices and philosophies is essential, including multimodal complete streets,
transit-oriented design, vision zero, traffic calming and right-of-way management.
As the City's technical expert, you will work closely with external consultants as well as respond to inquiries from the public, the media, and City elected officials. Your professionalism, political acumen and superior communication and negotiation skills will serve you well as you will be called upon to prepare and present reports to City Council, Committees, and Senior Management.
Your strategic planning skills will help you establish effective targets and measurements for your team in alignment with achieving corporate goals. Your proven track record of leadership skills and labour relations experience will be essential as you develop, coach and manage the performance of your team.
Key Qualifications
If you have a University degree in Civil Engineering or related field with a minimum of eight (8) years of professional engineering experience in traffic or transportation engineering, you are encouraged to submit your resume and cover letter. You must be registered as a Professional Engineer in Canada and will be required to obtain APEGS registration within one (1) year of hire. Certification as a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) preferred. Certification as a Road Safety Professional (RSP1, RSP2) is an asset.
