Position Summary
This position safely and effectively performs a variety of semi-skilled duties in the Water Operations branch including assisting with the operation of hydrovacing, valve exercising, steaming, and flushing of the water system assets. This position typically reports to an Engineering Assistant, Crew Lead or Coordinator
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform semi-skilled duties in operating and maintaining the water system.
- Perform general yard maintenance at work sites as directed.
- Assist with the operation of hydrovacs, valve turners, steamers, and uni-directional flushing units.
- Removal and replacement of material when hydrovacing curb boxes and valve boxes
- Removal of debris and covers to provide access to survey and inspect assets of the water systems.
- Load, unload, and set up equipment.
- Maintain good working relationships with fellow workers and supervisors.
- Follow all rules and regulations as set out in the Provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act and the City of Regina Occupational Health and Safety Manual and Water Distribution Unit policies and procedures.
- Perform related work as required
Key Qualifications
- Typically, the knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position are obtained through one (1) year’s general labourer experience performing construction, repair and/or maintenance activities within the water and sewer environment or related field.
- Must possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license. 1A license is an asset.
- Must have or obtain training/certification in confined space entry, safe trenching, WHMIS, First Aid and CPR.
- Knowledge of all the techniques used by the sewer and water operations in the maintenance, repair, and installation of underground assets.
- Skill in the use and care of common tools required to perform the duties of this position.
- Ability to carry out verbal and written instructions and provide verbal or written reports on work performed.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal or written instruction of a semi-technical nature.
- Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public and fellow employees.
- Ability to perform heavy physical labour over sustained periods in all types of weather conditions.
- Ability to acquire a sound, general understanding of the sewer and water systems
Working/Other Conditions
- May be required to work shift work and/or irregular hours.

- Proof of education is required.
