POSITION SUMMARY:

 

This position is responsible for a variety of aquatic leisure sport fitness and special event programs and services within the facility This position assists in ensuring the efficient and effective overall management and program operation This position reports to the Sportplex Supervisor or Leisure Centre Supervisor.

 

                                                                           This position is tentatively scheduled to start in August.

 


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Ensures the development promotion implementation and evaluation of programs and services including leisure fitness aquatic sport and lifestylerelated programs.
  • Works cooperatively with other staff in ensuring services meet the needs of facility users.
  • Provides input and assists in coordinating the repair and replacement facility equipment in consultation with Corporate Services Department.
  • Participates in hiring training supervising evaluating and scheduling of program and aquatic staff.
  • Develops and recommends staff orientation customer service and other training as required.
  • Develops and recommends policies and procedures for programming and scheduling in order to maintain the effective operation of the facility.
  • Coordinates the collection and interpretation of facility program data.
  • Prepares statistical and periodic reports.
  • Approves requisitions expenditures and other transactions within the limits of authority and takes necessary actions to protect Civic assets against loss and waste.
  • Provides input in the preparation and monitoring of annual operating expenditures and revenues.
  • Assists in the development capital plans.
  • Assists in the development of long and short range plans and objectives.
  • Handles public inquiries and complaints.
  • Performs related work as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge Abilities and Skills:

 

  • Knowledge of administration programming and development of various aquatic sport recreation fitness and special event programs.
  • Knowledge of creative program planning practice and techniques.
  • Ability to plan organize and schedule program activities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in aquatic facility and program operations.
  • Thorough knowledge of computer applications used in facility scheduling and programming.
  • Knowledge of corporate and department policies and procedures required to effectively administer direct recreation program services and to manage human resources.
  • Knowledge and understanding of special populations ie Aboriginal physically mentally and sensory impaired lower socioeconomic disadvantaged aged and others.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of customer service delivery in a recreationprogram delivery environment.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety legislation and other legislated requirements related to lifeguarding and the ability to implement and monitor safe working practices.
  • Ability to interpret local union agreements and effectively deal with any concerns or problems in this area.
  • Ability to plan and direct the work of subordinate staff.
  • Ability to research and analyze data and prepare reports.
  • Ability to demonstrate superior communication and interpersonal skills in a variety of methods and settings.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.

 


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:


  • Typically the knowledge skills and abilities required for this position are obtained through completion of a Diploma in Recreation and Leisure Studies or two (2) years of postsecondary education in a degree program in Recreation Physical Activities Studies Kinesiology or related discipline coupled with two (2) years experience in aquatic service delivery and recreation facility management and operations with demonstrated ability in supervision leadership and programming.
  •  A degree in Recreation Administration or BusinessPublic Administration coupled with related recreation and facility management courses would be an asset

 

WORKING/OTHER CONDITIONS:


  • Must have possessed a National Lifeguarding Service award, Lifesaving Society Swim for Life Instructor award, and a Lifesaving Instructor award within the past five (5) years (Recertification may be required based on facility and program needs).
  • Must possess a valid drivers license and have available a vehicle for work usage  a travel allowance is provided.
  • May be required to work nonstandard hours.

 

Additional Requirements:

 

  • Successful candidates may be required to provide a satisfactory criminal record check per the City of Reginas Criminal Record Check Policy.
  • Proof of education is required.
  • Additional assessments may be conducted to evaluate competencies skills and knowledge.
