The City of Regina is hiring a Media Relations Consultant for a six-months term, with the possibility of extension.
This position is made for you if:

- You love learning and have yet to find a rabbit hole you have resisted diving into.
- You are unperturbed by short deadlines and can keep a cool head because in media relations, when it rains, it pours.
The Media Relations Consultant helps provide accurate, timely and fulsome responses to media inquiries directed to the City of Regina. The job includes monitoring media requests and drafting responses, writing statements, key messages, releases and advisories, as well as helping prepare spokesperson for interviews, planning media events and more. Your days will be spent learning how the City works and collaborating with internal experts and the news media to make sure residents have the information they need, when they need it.
Key Qualifications
- The ideal qualities for this position include excellent writing skills, a can-do mindset, the ability to make decisions, attention to detail, a methodical and organized approach to work and the ability to pivot throughout the day to adapt to unforeseen requests.
- Prior experience or knowledge of communications and journalism experience is preferred, but it is not a requirement.
- An education background in the arts, including literature, journalism or communications would be an asset.
Working/Other Conditions
- Regular office environment
- Must have a Class 5 Drivers License
- 8:15 am – 5:00 pm
- Computer work, reading, listening at meetings, as well as driving to/from off-site locations is required.
- There may be some requirement to attend off-site meetings, conferences or industry events.
- Position will be required to manage, and actively participate in event logistics, including the set-up and take down of event materials which requires lifting upwards of 50lbs.
Additional Requirements:
- Successful candidates may be required to provide a satisfactory criminal record check per the City of Regina's Criminal Record Check Policy.
- Proof of education is required.
- Additional assessments may be conducted to evaluate competencies, skills, and knowledge.
