Position Summary
This position performs inventory control, requisition, central receiving, materials issuance, and purchasing supplies in support of fleet maintenance and repair activities. Responsibilities include researching and procuring parts, materials and/or supplies in a cost efficient and timely manner, maintaining computerized inventories, and conducting periodic visual inventory of storage items. This position reports to the Supervisor, Parts department, Facilities Fleet.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Requisitions, receives, inspects, stores, issues, and inventories a wide range of stock and non-stock parts.
- Researches suppliers and catalogs to compare prices, quality, availability, and delivery timelines.
- Orders standard materials, prepares requisitions, and identifies new sources for supplies and services.
- Expedites purchase orders, follows up on deliveries, and manages back-ordered items.
- Verifies deliveries, inspects for damage, signs delivery tags, and updates inventory records accordingly.
- Maintains accurate records of material transactions and updates computerized inventory systems.
- Conducts physical inventories, reconciles discrepancies, and helps determine optimal inventory levels.
- Operates forklifts, pick-up/delivery trucks, and other equipment to handle and transport materials safely.
- Performs routine cleaning and maintenance duties in the fleet parts storeroom.
- Processes warranty claims and adheres to health and safety regulations as outlined by provincial and municipal standards.
Key Qualifications
- Successful completion of Journeyperson Certificate in the Partsperson trade coupled with two (2) to three (3) years of current Journeyperson Partsperson experience including purchasing, receiving, issuing, and counter sales in a modern, computerized truck or mobile equipment parts department operation.
- Completion of the Supply Management Training course from Supply Chain Canada is an asset.
- Strong knowledge and experience in receiving, stocking, tagging, and issuing supplies within a computerized stores operation.
- Proficient in current accounting and parts procurement procedures in line with purchasing policies.
- Familiarity with mechanical and hydraulic systems used in heavy equipment, with the ability to assist in ordering parts for in-house assemblies.
- Skilled in inventory control and record-keeping within computerized inventory management systems.
- Knowledgeable in occupational health and safety regulations, including Provincial and City of Regina guidelines.
- Capable of interpreting technical methods and procedures in a modern parts environment.
- Effective at analyzing and identifying required parts for both routine and unexpected maintenance situations.
- Competent in using personal computers, corporate software, and internet tools for inventory, research, and communication tasks.
- Physically capable of performing labour-intensive tasks, including heavy lifting, and working independently with sound judgment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to follow instructions, work well in a team, and provide courteous service.
Working/Other Conditions
- A valid drivers license is required and a vehicle available for work usage (a travel allowance is provided). The successful candidate must complete WHMIS Training.
- Will be required to work non-standard hours / varying shifts.
