Position Summary:
Join the Water Operations team as a permanent Journeyperson Industrial Mechanic!
Reporting to the Supervisor, and working alongside experienced professionals, you'll provide operational support and play a key role in maintaining and repairing critical infrastructure, including the asphalt plant, wastewater treatment plant, storm and wastewater collection systems, and water supply systems.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:
- Inspect, assess, monitor, maintain, service and operate equipment, systems and facilities such as but not limited to the wastewater and storm water lift stations, asphalt plant, wastewater treatment plant and water supply systems.
- Participate in development, modification and implementation of preventive maintenance programs, operating procedures, work processes and safety programs.
- Diagnose system defects, mechanical defects and/or equipment malfunctions and determine corrective action materials and supplies required.
- If assigned to the Sewer & Drainage Operations branch; monitor, control and respond to operational needs of lift station and SCADA monitored infrastructure.
- Provide input and recommend changes and improvements to work plans, programs, procedures, material standards and specification related to equipment, system and facility maintenance and operation.
- Supervise and direct staff and contractors involved in the mechanical maintenance, general maintenance, operations and servicing of equipment, systems and facilities.
- Interpret and communicate specification, blueprints, drawings, diagrams, work orders and city policies and standards to staff and contractors to ensure compliance with requirements.
- Operate machinist tools to manufacture parts and execute necessary maintenance and modifications as required.
- Perform welding as required in the repair and modification of components of equipment, system and facilities.
- Requisition and purchase materials and supplies within the limits of established authority.
- Ensure compliance of personnel, equipment, materials, contractors and consultants at work sites to meet Provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act, the City of Regina Occupational Health and Safety Manual, City of Regina Standard and Emergency Operating Procedures, and legislative and regulatory requirements.
- Perform related work as required.
Key Qualifications:
- Completion of Grade twelve (12), and successful completion of a Journeyperson Industrial Mechanic Certificate from a recognized institution
- Minimum of 4000 hours (2 years) of industrial mechanic journeyperson experience.
- Thorough knowledge of industrial mechanics related to the mechanical maintenance of equipment, systems and facilities.
- Knowledge of mechanical process operations, materials, equipment, methods and other resources in municipal facilities or comparable industry facilities.
- Knowledge of preventative maintenance programs.
- Knowledge of the general rules and regulations of the Provincial Occupation Health and Safety Act and the City of Regina Occupational Health and Safety Requirements.
- Demonstrate ability to operate maintain and service machine tools such as lathes, drill presses, power saws, hand saws, grinders and other machinist and common tools required to perform the duties of this position efficiently and safely.
- Demonstrated ability to perform welding assignments using oxy/acetylene and arc welding equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to document and maintain records.
- Skills to operate computer equipment and office productivity software such as Excel and work to enter and retrieve data, prepare reports and send electronic mail.
- If assigned to the Sewer & Drainage Operations branch; demonstrated ability to make technical and business computations, estimates, analysis and evaluations.
- Demonstrated ability to read, understand and interpret mechanical and electrical diagrams and engineering drawings, specifications, work plans and technical manuals.
- Demonstrated ability and knowledge to independently diagnose defects in equipment, systems and facilities to make necessary repairs.
- Ability to learn and then operate necessary equipment and machinery required to perform the duties of the job.
- Ability to create and maintain a safe, respectful and innovative work environment.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal or written instructions of a technical nature.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective, respectful and professional working relations with staff, contractors, suppliers and the general public in an acceptable, sensitive and positive manner.

- Ability to develop, document and maintain records, procedures and reports, and express ideas effectively in both written and verbal form.
- Ability to plan and organize daily work activities.
- Ability to interpret, understand and manage work in accordance with the general rules and regulations of the Provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act, other legislation, and expectations of City of Regina’s policies, standards, practices and guidelines.
- Ability to acquire and apply knowledge of City policies and procedures, legislative and regulatory requirements.
- Basic skills to operate computer equipment and office productivity software such as Excel, Word, etc. to enter and retrieve data, prepare reports and send electronic mail.
Working/Other Conditions:
- Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver's License.
- Willing to work shift and/or irregular hours and be on standby.
- May be required to respond to call-outs and emergencies as required.
- Must be willing to work from variable bases of operation.
- Must be able and willing to perform work of a physical nature (ie climbing ladders, heavy lifting, working in awkward positions, slippery positions, working at heights (up to 20 meters), working in confine spaces, etc.), in domestic sewage, dusty, dirty environments and in inclement conditions.
- Ability to safely operate vehicles on grid roads, lagoon dykes, pipeline right-of ways and well-field areas.
- The employee will be required to perform the duties of this position, both inside and outside year round.
- Must participate in training and be willing and able to complete recognized certification programs and courses to perform the work and maintain status.
