As the HR Associate for Client Services & Labour Relations, you are a client-facing generalist who works collaboratively with many levels of leadership at the City. You will work with all of our experienced HR Business Partners (HRBP) as they support their clients in developing creative solutions to organizational challenges while working to achieve strategic objectives. You will assist the HRBPs in providing day-to-day service delivery in labour relations, employee relations, best practices, case law research and recruitment advice.
How you will be spending your time:
- Working to gain knowledge and understanding of five collective bargaining agreements
- Providing support for employee/labour relations issues, including internal dispute resolution, policy/procedure interpretation, Collective Agreement interpretation, counselling and actively participating in the handling of complaints, grievances, investigations etc.
- Working with the HRBPs to provide day-to-day performance management guidance to managers (coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions)
- Providing advice and guidance to hiring managers in conjunction with the Talent Acquisition Specialist
- Understanding and working with employee data to support the HRBPs in improving employee engagement, performance and retention
- Researching case law to support grievances and arbitrations
- Supporting the HRBPs in efforts to create positive workplace culture, employee empowerment, accountability, continuous improvement, and ongoing learning
- Guiding managers on the HR implications of business decisions and on all aspects of people-management and leadership
- Facilitating training sessions for managers and individual departments on various topics to enhance team performance
- Partnering with HR Centres of Expertise to meet the goals of the department and support the organization

To be successful in this role:
- A diploma or university degree in a related field such as Business Administration or Commerce
- 2-years’ experience in a generalist Human Resources role
- Solid communication and relationship building skills
- Excellent problem solving, organizational and time management skills
- CPHR designation is considered an asset
- We will consider applicants with equivalent education and experience
Working/other conditions:
- There can be a requirement to attend to multiple off-site locations depending on client portfolio being supported
