The Water Waste & Environment Department is seeking Labours to join the Water Operations, Sewer & Drainage Operations, and Operational Services Branches!

 

Water Operations Main Duties:

 

  • Perform new water construction, repair, and maintenance.
  • Excavate trenches or excavations by hand and power-operated tools and equipment.
  • Lay and join all water main, sewer and connection pipes.
  • Clean, paint, maintain and test fire hydrants.
  • Operate tandem and single axle trucks assigned to the Water Operations Branch.
  • Support in the operation and maintenance of hydrovacs, portable steamers and watermain flushing units
  • Cleaning and maintenance activities of vehicles, equipment & assets.
  • Perform other related duties.

Sewer & Drainage Main Duties:

 

  • Perform general labourer duties involving maintenance activities in the branch.
  • Operate equipment and vehicles assigned to the area.
  • Load and unload heavy material and equipment.
  • Cleaning and maintenance activities.
  • Support Source Control inspections, investigations, and compliance instructing
  • Support Field Operations in both domestic and storm sewer cleaning and maintenance activities.
  • Support Lift Station Operations in maintenance and operations of our domestic and storm lift stations.
  • Perform other related duties.

 

Key Qualifications: 

 

  • Typically, the knowledge, skills and abilities are obtained through the completion of Grade 12 or General Education Development (GED) equivalency.
  • A valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s License (1A license would be an exceptional asset).
  • Must have or be willing to obtain certification in safe trenching, confined space, WHMIS, necessary permits and certification to operate equipment as required.
  • Experience operating large and small equipment and hand tools.
  • Basic to Intermediate computer skills which would include familiarity with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to follow all rules and regulations as set out in the Saskatchewan Employment Act and the City of Regina Corporate Safety Manual.
  • Ability to perform heavy physical labour over sustained periods in all types of weather conditions.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish good interpersonal skills with fellow workers and citizens is a must.
  • Ability to work with equipment and systems.
  • Ability to enter and work within confined spaces.
  • Ability to work in contact with raw or partially treated wastewater in confined spaces and varying environmental conditions.
  • Knowledge of household plumbing and the city’s domestic/storm sewer systems would be an asset.
