Regina Fire & Protective Services is seeking a Business Solutions Specialist to join our team on a 12-month term opportunity. In this dynamic role, you will be the critical bridge between business needs and technology solutions, enabling impactful improvements. This position provides business solutions consulting across the division. As a business solutions source of expertise within the division this position serves as the vital link between the business and the technology side of the solution. The position participates in the development of short and long range plans for business systems that are aligned with division business planning. Responsibility for key aspects of the development and management of various maintenance management, vehicle location, project costing, client systems and interfaces, also fall within the scope of this position. The Business Solutions Specialist takes a lead role in developing and implementing division and branch specific solutions.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide technical consulting to optimize system performance, including troubleshooting, modifications, and maintenance.
  • Assess corporate system upgrades, implementing necessary adjustments to parameters, coding, and specifications.
  • Lead and support user testing for system releases, upgrades, and enhancements.
  • Collaborate with directors and managers to identify reporting needs and deliver complex, multi-system reports.
  • Analyze workflows and implement process improvements using business process methodologies.
  • Act as a key liaison for projects, studies, and system upgrades across divisions.
  • Train and support staff in using systems, interfaces, and tools, while researching and implementing enhancements.
  • Apply project management practices to develop charters, plans, and progress reports.
  • Support, maintain, and secure critical hardware and software for emergency communications.
  • Stay updated on technological advancements to enhance application development and reporting.
  • Document policies, procedures, and workflows for system operations.
  • Define requirements and develop PC-based applications as needed.
  • Maintain database systems, ensuring security and effective design for management information.
  • Align personal work plans with branch and team objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate standards and health and safety regulations.
  • Prepare documentation, reports, and other necessary materials.
  • Perform related duties as required.

Key Qualifications

•Typically, the knowledge, skills and abilities required are obtained through completion of a University degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, or other related discipline
•(3) to five (5) years experience in the development and implementation of new technologies and software solutions.
•Specific experience in analytical and operational aspects of public safety dispatching and/or technical system experience within police, fire, emergency medical, or consolidated emergency communications center is highly desirable.
KNOWLEDGE OF: 
•Contemporary PC-based operating systems
•Relational database management systems
•Local and wide area networks
•Systems analysis, design, and programming techniques and documentation
•Debugging techniques
•SQL, XML, Power BI, or similar data query tools and languages.
•Data storage methods and techniques
•Data communication methods and devices
•Data security techniques.
•Principles and practices of desktop systems and collaboration tools, including but not limited to Microsoft Office and SharePoint.
•Principles, procedures, practices, techniques, and terminology associated with mobile data computer and data-communication systems and operations.
•Capabilities and limitations of related hardware including PC's, monitors, printers, disk storage, and communication devices.
•Capabilities and limitations of mobile data computers, computer software, including operating systems.
•Principles of TCP/IP networking
ABILITY TO:
•Use ad hoc query and reporting tools to create effective reports and presentations of data in text and graphical formats.
•Facilitate large groups and document the development and implementation of technical solutions.
•Work independently demonstrating sound judgement and initiative to establish priorities while taking into consideration the complexities of the issues and required deadlines.
•Use project management techniques, practices and software.
•Instruct and train divisional staff on new processes, procedures, software and hardware.
•Express ideas effectively in oral and written form with particular emphasis being placed on the ability to prepare policies and procedures and to communicate orally to group audiences.
•Establish and maintain effective working relationships in a team environment.
•Communicate effectively with staff at various levels of the organization.
•Communicate clearly and concisely in English.

Working/Other Conditions

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license or the means and ability to travel within the City of Regina.
