POSITION SUMMARY:
This is a part-time, term position that supports the development of accessibility-related policies, standards, and resources for the City of Regina. The role also supports the implementation of the City’s Accessibility Plan and other initiatives aimed at preventing and removing barriers for people with disabilities and older adults. This position reports to the Accessibility Advisor within the Community Wellbeing branch.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support development of accessible communications policies, standards and resources for the City of Regina
- Support City staff on accessibility and inclusion best practices and project-specific work
- Provide high quality research on best practices on accessibility and inclusion
- Support the creation and distribution of resources on accessibility and inclusion for broader organizational and community use
- Support the development of accessibility standards for the City
- Support in change management planning with an accessibility focus
- Support community consultation and analysis of issues and trends related to inclusive, accessible and age-friendly communities
- Perform related work as required
- Responds to internal and external customer inquiries
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
- Knowledge of best practices in accessible communications and engagement
- Knowledge and experience in supporting community engagement and consultation processes
- Knowledge for research on policy development and implementation
- Ability to work with employees at all levels of the organization
- Interacts across a range of internal and external stakeholders with a focus on the provision of services and the exchange, collection, and dissemination of information
- Ability to research, analyze and summarize reliable information and determine action required
- Identifies issues, consults, and follows policies, procedures, and processes
- Prioritizes and adapts office activities in accordance with daily/weekly/annual schedule within defined timelines/deadlines
- Ensures work is completed in compliance with legislation, by-laws, and specifications
- Provides ideas and suggestions to improve work processes
- Strong creative thinking, problem solving and decision-making abilities
- Proven ability to effectively work independently and manage multiple priorities
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Currently studying in the field of community development or communications
- Typically, the knowledge, skills and abilities required are obtained through a High School Diploma and some post-secondary study in Disability Studies, Social Sciences, Communications, Public Engagement or related fields
- 1 year experience working on project teams
- Lived experience of disability an asset
WORKING / OTHER CONDITIONS:
- Contributes to completion of work unit activities through completion of sequenced tasks/workflow
- Contributes to health, safety, and well-being self and others
- Uses keyboards, mouse, computers/tablet, and other technology devices
- Sits or stands with opportunity to change position
- Visual and concentration effort during document review, data/information input, cross checks of data/information, confirming data/information accuracy
- Auditory effort during stakeholder interactions
- Responds to interruptions to workflow that impact concentration demands
- Works in indoor office environments
- This is a part-time, term position. It is for 700 hours across 8-12 months, or approximately 15-20 hours per week
- Must be able to attend regular meetings with supervisor and team (in person or virtually)
- Schedule and work location will be determined through discussion with the successful candidate
Additional Requirements:
- Successful candidates may be required to provide a satisfactory criminal record check per the City of Regina's Criminal Record Check Policy.
- Proof of education is required.
- Additional assessments may be conducted to evaluate competencies, skills, and knowledge.
