Position Summary
This position performs general tire repairs on light trucks, turf and industrial equipment, medium and heavy trucks, heavy mobile construction equipment and heavy equipment. Duties are performed onsite in the assigned fleet maintenance facility or at various City locations and job sites, as required. This position reports to the Trades Coordinator (Fleet Mechanical).
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Removes and installs tires, wheels and rims on light and medium duty trucks, heavy trucks, industrial equipment, construction equipment and heavy equipment.
- Inspects tires, wheel and rim components in order to assess damage, diagnose defects and recommends appropriate repair procedures or component replacement.
- Assists in monitoring or directing commercial services provided to the City by outside suppliers including tire recapping, installation or removal of fluid, section and other specialized repairs and purchase of new tires.
- Performs routine repair of punctured or leaking tires.
- Performs general maintenance and repair of tools and equipment utilized in the repair and maintenance of all types of vehicle and equipment tires, tubes, wheels, rims and mounting systems.
- Maintains stock levels including monitoring, ordering and receiving materials.
- Follow all rules and regulations as set out in the Provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act and the City of Reina Occupational Health and Safety Manual.
- Performs related work as required, and may be required to do non tire repair duties to include but not limited to: minor equipment repairs ; picks up and delivers various parts and vehicles; performs an assortment of cleaning and tidying duties ;provides assistance to mechanics; charge and replace batteries; replaces/repairs lights ; change, checks and rectifies fluid levels; maintains garage area clean and clear oil spills and debris; cleans shop tools; delivers vehicles and equipment for repairs; cleans exterior and interior of vehicles.
Key Qualifications
- Extensive knowledge (minimum 2 years experience) of tire, tube, wheel, rim, and mounting system repair and maintenance for a wide range of vehicles and equipment.
- In-depth understanding of safety procedures related to tire and wheel servicing, including compliance with legal and industry standards.
- Strong familiarity with allowable wear limits and safety regulations governing tires, treads, wheels, and components.
- Proficient in the operation of tools and equipment used in tire repair, replacement, and maintenance.
- Skilled in interpreting technical documents including service manuals, specifications, and mechanical drawings.
- Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision, exercising sound judgment and initiative.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills for clear interaction with team members and customers.
- Proven ability and experience in running a tire repair shop - including tire inventory, inventory controls and ordering/receiving tires.
- Committed to delivering high-quality internal and external customer service.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues, supervisors, and vendors.
Working/Other Conditions
- Must posses a valid Class 1A driver’s licence. Must posses (or be able and willing to successfully complete) a mobile crane safety operation course during the probation period.
- May be required to work shifts and in functional areas of mechanics other than heavy equipment repair.
- Able to perform work of a physical nature in all types of weather conditions.
- Testing will be conducted during the selection process.
